Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary

Wild life Inhabitant : Elephants, Tiger, Barking Deer, Gour, Leopard, Hornbill etc.

Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary deception in headquarters of Seijusa in the southwestern side of Arunachal Pradesh in India. Covering an area of 862 km, Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary or Pakke Tiger Reserve is dark, deep and green. Little rivulets crossing the park and moving into narrow clearing filled with animals are amazing.

Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary bounded by Kemeng River in the west 7 North, Pakke River in the East iterate boundary with Assam in the south. The area of present Pakke Tiger Reserve was originally constitute as Pakke Reserve Forest vide notification No.FOR/32/54 dated 01.07.1966 and was declared as Camo Sanctuary, dated 28.03.1977. Latterly, the park was declared, as Pakhui Wildlife sanctuary on 18.04.02, and finally it was declared, as Pakke Tiger Reserve (dated 23.04.02) under Project Tiger scheme of Government of India.


The Vegetations
Bamboos are found even higher up. There are over 12 genera and 30 species of Bamboos occurring in Arunachal Pradesh. The top altitudes between 1,000 to 3,000m have mainly deciduous and mixed deciduous forests. Walnuts, Oaks, Chestnuts, Pine, Spruce and Rhododendrons are found here. Short statured wild Rhododendrons are, however, found in plenty at a height of about 4,000 m. between the two areas, there comes an area of the conifers. Above the area of the Rhododendrons lies the alpine meadows at peaks just short of 5,000 m.

The Fauna

The possible faunas could be the tiger , leopard, clouded Leopard, jungle cat, wild dog, Fishing Cat, Jackal, Indian Fox, Himalayan Black Bear, Biturong, Elephant, Gaur, Samber, Hog deer, Barking Deer, Slow Loris, Wilboar, Yellow throated martin, Malayan Giant, squirrel, Flying squirrel, squirrel, civet, capped langur, Rhesus macaque, assamese Macaque, Bison etc. The presence of stamp tailed macaque has been reported by one researcher.

The Birds
Hornbill, white winged wood duck, Jungle Fowl, Peacock Phesant, Khaleej Pheasant, Dove, Barbets, Drongo, Scrpent eagle, Baaz eagles, ducks etc.

The Reptiles
Some reptiles like the python, the Cobra or the Krait are distinct possibilities.

Air : Nearest Airport is at Tezpur, From here you can pick a bus or hire a car to reach the sanctuary.

Rail : Nearest railhead is at Rangpara. From here you can pick a bus or hire a car to reach the sanctuary.

Road : From Tezpur regular buses ply to Bhalukpong and other major cities of Arunachal Pradesh. From both Tezpur and Bhalukpong you can easily reach the park by road.

Staying near The Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary
There are several places for accommodation for the visitors; the residence are quite comfortable with all required facilities. Accommodation can also be arranged in forest rest houses or small hotels and lodges.
